AKA Day at the Capitol was held March 12-13 in Sacramento, CA, where members of Mu Epsilon Omega Chapter engaged with the California State Legislature to advocate for policies and programs to support and strengthen our communities. Prior to the conference, members received an AKA Day at the Capitol Legislation Bills Report, which provided updated information on Legislative Bills and how they tie into the international programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
During the conference, Assemblymembers, Senators and representatives spoke on their respective bills and provided an update on whether any action had taken place from the Governor’s office. Members were able ask questions from representatives such as Sue Clark, who represents the Chief Clerk’s Office, Senator Steven Bradford, Assemblymember Chris Holden, Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, Assemblymember Jim Cooper, Assemblymember Christina Garcia, Assemblymember Reggie Jones- Sawyer, Assemblymember Mike Gibson, Assemblymember Shirley Weber and Assemblymember Autumn R. Burke.
Members concluded the conference by attending Assembly and Senate Sessions followed by a tour of the California State Capitol.
