The Orange County Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Mu Epsilon Omega, is proud to award one $3,000 scholarship to a deserving young women in their senior year of high school.
Be an African American female high school senior residing in Orange, Riverside, Inland Empire or Los Angeles County
Matriculate as a full time student at an accredited 4-year college or university for the fall of 2019
Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Demonstrated exceptional leadership through community service and/or involvement in extracurricular activities

400 – 600 word essay – Former First Lady Michelle Obama once said, “Success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.” Please share an example of a difference you’ve made that led to a positive outcome in your school, home or community.
Copy of signed transcript from high school counselor
Recent formal color portrait (recommendation – senior portrait)
Two letters of recommendation – from a teacher and someone who can attest to your personal character and attributes. Letters cannot come from a relative or peer.
Application Timeline & Important Dates
Sunday, May 12, 2019 – Application deadline at 11:59pm PST
Week of May 19, 2019 – Scholarship recipient notified (via email or phone)
Saturday June 1, 2019 – Mu Epsilon Omega Chapter meeting. Scholarship recipient is required to attend.
September 15, 2019 – Verification letter of student’s full-time status is due
Method of Distribution
The scholarship recipient must request their respective university or college registrar’s office to send a letter (on school letterhead) to this organization’s mailing address, stating that the student is enrolled with full-time status for the fall of 2019. The funds will be forfeited if the recipient withdraws from school prior to the receipt of the funds, or if the letter verifying the student’s full-time status is not received by September 15, 2019. The scholarship check will be disbursed to the recipient upon verification during the fall of 2019.
