The Orange County Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Mu Epsilon Omega, is proud to award two $2,500 scholarships to deserving young women in their senior year of high school.

Scholarship Eligibility

Z

Be an African American female high school senior residing in Orange, Riverside, Inland Empire or Los Angeles County

Z

Matriculate as a full time student at an accredited 4-year college or university for the fall of 2017

 

Z

Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Z

Demonstrated exceptional leadership through community service and/or involvement in extracurricular activities

400 – 600 word essay  – Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “One’s philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes.” Please share an example of a choice you’ve made that led to a positive outcome in your school, home or community.

Copy of signed transcript from high school counselor

Recent formal color portrait (recommendation – senior portrait)

Z

Two letters of recommendation – from a teacher and someone who can attest to your personal character and attributes. Letters cannot come from a relative or peer.

Week of May 22, 2017 – Scholarship recipient notified (via email or phone)

Saturday, June 3, 2017 – Scholarship Recognition Presentation, 10AM-10:30AM in Orange County. Scholarship recipients are required to attend.

September 15, 2017 – Verification letter of student’s full-time status  is due

Method of Distribution
The scholarship recipient must request their respective university or college registrar’s office to send a letter (on school letterhead) to this organization’s mailing address, stating that the student is enrolled with full-time status for the fall of 2017. The funds will be forfeited if the recipient withdraws from school prior to the receipt of the funds, or if the letter verifying the student’s full-time status is not received by September 15, 2017. The scholarship check will be disbursed to the recipient upon verification during the fall of 2017.
