Scholarships

The Pearls of Excellence Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Mu Epsilon Omega Chapter of Orange County, California is proud to award (3) three scholarships in the amount of $3,000.00, $1,500.00 and $500.00 respectively to three deserving young women in their senior year of high school.

Scholarship Eligibility

Be a female African American high school senior, either residing in or attending school in Orange County

Acceptance to an accredited 4-year college or university for the fall of 2024

Not be related to any member in the Mu Epsilon Omega (MEΩ) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® (Relatives include but are not limited to, daughters, stepdaughters, granddaughters, sisters, nieces and cousins.)

Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Demonstrated exceptional leadership through community service and/or involvement in extracurricular activities.

Scholarship Application Requirements

Completed online application

400 – 600 word essay – What are the influences that social media or other news sources have on the social justice movement?

Copy of signed and sealed transcript from high school counselor or verified transcript from recognized college transcript service

Recent color portrait (senior or business photo recommended)

Two letters of recommendation on official letterhead. (relatives and peers may not submit)

– (1) letter from a teacher, employment supervisor, or extracurricular activity supervisor (e.g. JROTC, Athletics, Marching Band)

– (1) letter from a person who can attest to your personal character and attributes

April 10, 2024 – Application deadline 11:59PM

Method of Distribution

The scholarship recipient must request their respective university or college registrar’s office to send a letter (on school letterhead) to this organization’s mailing address, stating that the student is enrolled with full-time status for the fall of 2024. The funds will be forfeited if the recipient withdraws from school prior to the receipt of the funds, or if the letter verifying the student’s full-time status is not received by September 15, 2024. The scholarship check will be disbursed to the recipient upon verification during the fall of 2024.
