Mu Epsilon Omega Chapter was chartered on June 4, 1978 in Orange County, California. The chartering was a culmination of long hours of hard work by Alpha Kappa Alpha women eager to establish the first and only graduate chapter in Orange County and chartered by then Far Western Regional Director Mildred Robinson with an initial membership of 20 women.
MEΩ is in the Far Western Region and is the first and only graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Orange County. The chapter established several signature programs which include the following: Annual Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) Conference, a one day conference for young ladies; Hats and Gloves Scholarship Tea, which awards scholarships to high school seniors in Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside Counties; Pink & Green on Broadway, which proceeds go towards scholarships to high school seniors in Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside Counties; Brunch with Santa for women and children, this event is held in December at WISEPlace, a women’s shelter in Santa Ana, CA; Summer Cooking Series, also held for the residents at WISEPlace; Educational Advancement Foundation "Pink On Pins" Family Bowling Night; and we partner with Orange County Coastkeeper for the annual Huntington Beach Clean-up. Our chapter is also “a green” chapter. During meetings, we have significantly reduced the use of paper for agendas and reports as modeled at the Far Western Region conferences.
Additionally, the chapter proudly mentors and actively supports the undergraduate members of Lambda Sigma Chapter at the University of California, Irvine.
Mu Epsilon Omega Chapter continues to reclaim inactive members and welcome new membership. Members are comprised of women who reside in various counties throughout Southern California and the chapter maintains a highly visible presence in the community through service and involvement throughout Orange County.
